Bridal Portrait Sessions

A traditional take by a modern bride. Bridals are a Southern tradition that are becoming more and more popular for the benefits they bring. Here’s everything you need to know before booking yours.

What are bridal portraits?

Bridal portraits are a solo session of the bride in her entire wedding-day attire. Yes, even the flower bouquet! The bridal portraits are taken by a professional photographer, ideally your wedding photographer will do these photos. There is a purpose for your own wedding photographer to take them but more on that later. Bridal portraits are more common among Southern brides but are quickly becoming more and more popular for the beautiful heirlooms they make.

When should you have your bridal portraits taken?

Ideally one to two months before the big day. There are a few reasons for that. One of them is that you want to allow enough time for your photographer to edit the images, you select your favorites and there’s enough time for ordering any wall art or enlargements which is what’s customarily done. An enlargement is displayed at the wedding and smaller prints are gifted to grandparents and parents. The second reason for this timing is that before the two-month mark you run the risk of being too early for your dress fitting, but it is still enough time to take it for alterations if some tweaking is needed. See, during your session you will be walking around in your dress to test the waters, so to speak, of the durability of the dress and its buttons and/or zippers. This takes us to another question….

Why do a bridals portrait session?

  • A chance to decide whether you’d like to change anything about your final look _Scheduling a photo shoot for your bridal portraits gives you the chance to give your make-up and hair a trial run to see how it looks with your dress. Maybe the glamour makeup you originally thought of wearing doesn’t translate on photos as you’d like and you decide going for a more natural look. This is the perfect opportunity for a "dress rehearsal" for when you're getting ready for your big day!

  • Get some posing practice with your dress and more comfortable in front of the camera _Just like at your engagement session you had some time to get comfortable with your photographer and being in front of the camera. In the same way, your bridal session will give you more one-on-one time with your photographer. You also get the chance to practice moving AND posing in your wedding dress. When the big day arrives, you’ll be a pro!

  • Capture strees-free, beautiful bridal portraits _during the wedding day time is set aside to do bridal portraits….UNLESS you have already had a Bridal Portrait Session done. In that case, you may choose to take it easier at the wedding, sit, relax, have a mimosa or two! Another reason though to get your bridal portraits done before the wedding is you’ll have an hour or two to yourself, enjoying the beautiful “look” you have envisioned probably your whole life and worked on so hard for the past few months. It just makes sense. Plus, it is a lot of fun!

By now you should have a better understanding of what a Bridal Portrait Session is. The decision is totally yours to jump into this traditional but fun idea to celebrate this once in a lifetime event. I am Jeremy Pineiro and I specialize in serving the modern, romantic and joyful bride, I would love to hear from you!
